Automobile Search Engines – A quick View
October 5, 2007 – 11:33 pmLooking for cars or information about cars can be frustrating and daunting. There is too much information. Doing a Google or Yahoo search will generate millions of hits, of which only a fraction will be relevant, and of that fraction a smaller fraction will provide you with information that you actually can use. To that end let’s look at some search engines that can help you determine what you want, need, and prefer by way of an automobile. We will look at two Automobile search engines that are designed along different lines. On uses a hybrid model with artificial intelligence algorithms, the other looks at content or meaning based searches.
MyRide.com
With MyRide.com, automobile consumers will be able to locate a new or used car, car parts, accessories, and even a local business for service and repair, based on a tightly-focused combination of relevant content and auto-related Web search results and user-generated content.
MyRide is not just your crawler based search engine, the site has been designed around artificial intelligence algorithms that can adapt and interpret consumer behavior. A database will contain information in order to respond to user questions, create content based on them and, over time, adapt the system to address the concerned interests and most pressing needs of its users. It is partly a hybrid search engine with consumers playing a role in delivering content. This will informing future car buyers and present ownership conditions by allowing users to adapt and inform through the use of surveys, blogs, polls, reviews and ratings.
The visual experience that MyRide provides takes automotive multimedia to the new plane. Don’t expect simple one-by-one postage size photos. It includes splashy visual elements, such as full-screen vehicle images as well as extensive video assets and capabilities. The multimedia content is positioned throughout the website to give a dynamic look and feel, and the multimedia is not isolated to “galleries” as found on many other sites.
MyRide.com is a marketers dream because it is designed to gather consumer behavior throughout the automotive lifecycle. It is also designed to interpret users’ intent. Think opportunity as automotive marketers will have more opportunities to address their products to a much larger and more targeted, audience.
Right Autos
Another automobile web site of interest is RightAutos.com. This site provides many of the features found in MyRide, but it differs because it is powered by Kosmix.
Kosmix.com is a search engine that is powered not by crawling but by content identification. By linking to other websites, the search engine is able to produce the “meaning” of the web page. The result is that as you search the web you produce content that more closely results your search term…the meaning.
RightAutos is powered by Kosmix. The result of the search will be more closely aligned with the intent of the user. This filters and eliminates many results that would be irrelevant.
Right Autos has many of the characteristics that MyRide has. There are videos powered by TruVeo. There is an image gallery, car reviews, Safety and recalls, Parts and Maintenance, and car enthusiasts section.
While it is not as splashy as MyRide, RightAutos will allow you to search for the vehicle or parts that you want. In the end this feature will be the predominant selling point if RightAutos can deliver the content that you are looking for quicker and with less irrelevant results.
